State of Digital Inclusion in Kansas City: June 3 at 2pm

UPDATE: Materials from this meeting are now available:

The Mayor and City Council will hear a presentation on two detailed studies on digital disparities in our community. The presentations will focus on these communities broadly in a study from national digital inclusion expert Dr. John Horrigan who worked on a study commissioned by the Kansas City Public Library and the Schools Health Libraries and Broadband Coalition(SHLB) released in December of 2019. The second, in response to Covid-19 related stay-at-home orders that required school districts to shift to distance learning, Katie Boody of LEANLAB Education assessed the technology needs of 22 school districts across the KC metro area and the perceptions of distance learning of close to 300 teachers, revealing that roughly 20% of public school students are without reliable internet access.

This conversation will advance and bring focus to the areas where we need to mobilize and help inform an upcoming Digital Equity Townhall co-presented by the Urban League of Kansas City, The Kansas City Public Library, Kansas City Public Schools, The Civic Council of Greater Kansas City, The City of Kansas City, Missouri, Connecting for Good, LeanLab, School Smart and many other partners.
